Cantook Education - Privacy policy

Introduction

The Cantook Éducation platform (hereinafter "we," the "Service") is published by De Marque (SIRET number: 49351092900018), whose head office is located at 400 Boulevard Jean Lesage in Quebec City, Canada.

De Marque takes great care to respect the privacy and personal data of its users (hereinafter "You", "Customers", "Users"). We are committed to the utmost transparency regarding the collection, use and processing of your personal data under the laws applicable in your territory. De Marque makes legitimate and appropriate efforts to protect the confidentiality of your personal information.

The following privacy policy (hereinafter the "Policy") describes how personal data is collected, processed, and used, as well as the legal basis for this processing. It also describes our users' rights to access, modify or delete their data.

The Cantook Éducation digital lending platform lets you easily choose, borrow, reserve and read books made available by your school library according to parameters defined by the publishers and/or your school library.

Collection and use of personal information

While operating the Service, De Marque will collect and/or process information about you as described below. Personal data is collected and used only for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy and for no other purpose and is not passed on to third-party sites.

The Service collects the following personal data:

  • your email address;

  • your first name and our last name (when provided by your school's system);

  • your gender (when provided by your school's system);

  • your school year and the group(s) you belong to (class). 

This information is required:

  • For the service to work correctly. So, if your school wishes to allow teachers to use the Service in their classrooms, we need to know your name, school year and student group.

  • Management by librarians. For example, some institutions require gender for statistical purposes.

This data is kept as long as your account is active in the Service. This data will then not be retained.

Use of cookies

De Marque collects several types of information related to your browsing of the Service, such as the pages you visit, the date and time of your visit and the links you click. De Marque also collects the type of operating system on your computer, the language of your browser and your geographical location. The data collected and your IP address are kept by De Marque. De Marque uses this information solely to produce statistics and reports on browsing in the Service and in bug logging tools to improve the Service's functioning. In particular, these elements enable us to improve the Service by better understanding Users' browsing behaviour.

Session cookies are non-recognizable, encrypted identifiers that are essential, among other things, so that you don't have to log in again every time you visit a page.

The cookie expires after 24 hours with no activity during a session on the platform.

These cookies are essential for properly operating the Service and its functionalities. These cookies do not collect information intended for commercial prospecting or advertising targeting.

Use and sharing of collected data

De Marque does not sell, rent or commercially exploit the information collected. Collected information is not shared with or used by third parties other than for the purposes for which it was collected as described in this policy unless required or permitted by law or appropriate consent has been obtained, as applicable.

Personal data

In some cases, personal information may be disclosed to De Marque's partners and subcontractors who enable the operation of the Service, for example, by assisting De Marque in developing, maintaining and updating the Service.

Data will be disclosed only on a "need-to-know" basis after verification that appropriate contractual and other measures are in place.

Personal information may be used and disclosed if De Marque, acting reasonably, believes that the use and disclosure are necessary to comply with applicable law, legal process or governmental request, or otherwise for any purpose outlined in applicable law permitting or requiring the disclosure of personal information.

Anonymous data used on an aggregated basis

De Marque may use anonymized information on an aggregated basis to improve the Service. Anonymous data may also be aggregated for research and statistical purposes, including projects with De Marque's partners.

Anonymized information used on an aggregated basis is not personal information and could not, and will not, be used to re-identify you or any other individual.

Accessing, correcting and updating personal data

Per applicable laws, you may request access, correct or delete personal information by contacting De Marque: aide@demarque.com.

Safety measures

De Marque implements security measures as may be reasonably necessary to protect the security and confidentiality of personal information. In this regard, De Marque has implemented the following measures:

  • SSL technology: Every time the Account is accessed via the Internet, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology protects personal information through server authentication and data encryption. No personal data will be disclosed until this technology is activated.

  • Limited Access: Access to personal information is granted only to De Marque's relevant "need-to-know" employees, representatives and subcontractors to develop or operate the Service, as well as to administrators and teachers authorized by your educational institution within the contractual and legal framework that binds you to it.

  • Secure center: De Marque's servers are located in a data center in Quebec, and the Account is hosted on the Google Cloud Platform. EVEN IF DE MARQUE USES TECHNOLOGIES APPROPRIATE TO THE OPERATION OF THE SERVICE. THESE ARE NOT INFALLIBLE AGAINST UNFORESEEABLE EVENTS OR FORCE MAJEURE, CYBER-ATTACKS, ETC. OR UNAUTHORIZED USE AND ACCESS, AND YOU SHOULD BE AWARE THAT A RISK IS ASSOCIATED WITH TRANSMITTING DATA ELECTRONICALLY. THIS RISK IS INHERENT IN ALL OPERATIONS.

AS WELL AS ALL OTHER FORMS OF ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION. CONSEQUENTLY, DE MARQUE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THE INFORMATION WILL NEVER BE INTERCEPTED OR CONSULTED OR THAT IT WILL NEVER BE TRANSMITTED TO THIRD PARTIES.

SUCH EVENTS MAY OCCUR AND CAUSE EQUIPMENT OR SYSTEMS TO MALFUNCTION, BECOME ACCESSIBLE TO OR CONTROLLED BY UNAUTHORIZED PERSONS AND GIVE RISE TO THE RECEIPT OF UNWANTED COMMUNICATIONS AND INVITATIONS. IF YOU RECEIVE A MESSAGE THAT APPEARS TO BE FROM DE MARQUE ASKING YOU TO PROVIDE PERSONAL INFORMATION, YOU SHOULD AVOID RESPONDING. DE MARQUE WILL NEVER ASK FOR FINANCIAL AND OTHER SENSITIVE INFORMATION IN THIS MANNER. IF YOU OR ANYONE ELSE HAS SUBMITTED PERSONAL INFORMATION IN RESPONSE TO A SUSPICIOUS EMAIL, POP-UP OR FAKE WEBSITE CLAIMING TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH DE MARQUE, OR IF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING OCCUR SHOULD ANY OF THE ABOVE EVENTS OCCUR, PLEASE CONTACT DE MARQUE IMMEDIATELY.

Storage of personal information

Subject to applicable law, De Marque retains and stores personal information for use and disclosure following this Privacy Policy for as long as necessary for the purposes described herein. For this purpose, De Marque may retain personal information once a specific purpose has been fulfilled if it is reasonably required to do so: i) to comply with the law, (ii) to resolve disputes, and (iii) to enforce this Privacy Policy. Once the information is no longer required, it will be deleted.

Modifications

De Marque reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. Any material changes will be communicated before their effective date using a pop-up window or other means. An updated version of this Privacy Policy will be published and made readily available. In addition, an updated version of this Privacy Policy will be published whenever a minor change is made. It is possible to determine whether this Privacy Policy has been modified by checking its effective date. De Marque recommends that you review this Privacy Policy periodically to assess its current practices, as your continued use of the Application constitutes your acceptance of any changes made. If you do not agree with any changes to this Privacy Policy or any other applicable terms and conditions, you should immediately stop using the Account.
